  We went on Fat Tuesday. We didn't realize they were having a special event, but despite the crowd, it was a pleasant experience, the service was attentive and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the Cajun band playing Mardi Gras favorites!

  Catfish prepared properly (with grits) was the best. Hushpuppies appetizer was plentiful. Specialty drinks were unique and tasty. Terrific service! Will be back soon.

  The crab soup and crab cakes were great, the cat fish though was a bit to salty for me, but it was so loud in there with the music I couldn't have a conversation.

  Had a great dinner at The Southern on Friday evening on their beautiful patio. Will definitely go back when the weather is good, and am curious how the atmosphere changes when the patio is closed. Had the mac n' cheese, summer salad, blackened catfish w/ grits, and crab cakes. Enjoyed them all! Don't bother with the mint julep though, a very stingy pour for $12.00.

  My husband and I sat outside on the patio which was great. We shared the mac and cheese as well as a salad for appetizers. The mac and cheese was very good- creamy, smoky, and perfect cheese! The salad was similar to a greek salad and was light and refreshing. For our entrees I had the crab cakes which were fenominal!! Best I've ever had. My husband has a chicken curry/stew type dish which he said was good not great. I will say that two other tables had the fried chicken plates which looked amazing. Definitely will be going back for that!

  Definely will go back again! Mac and Cheese out of this world. Fun place and atmosphere although noisy.Parking can be difficult. Could use a valet.

  I love the Southern; I'm a Louisvillian and it brings me back to my culinary roots with welcome gourmet flair. It gets a little on the noisy side for a restaurant strictly speaking later on, when it transitions a bit more to a bar scene with good live music, but this isn't so much a complaint as a comment. The patio is awesome during the summer too, for people watching on North Ave. gDine was a great way to get a great dining experience out of them with a nice price.

  Excellent food and service. This is a great deal. Will come back in January for pig roast! How about more table and chairs, not everyone likes stools! One of my new favorite restaurants.

  As folks that enjoy good bourbon, our group of 4 tried the Bourbon / Dinner event and were absolutely blown away with how good the dinner was. Being from the deep south, I was glad to have the opportunity to try higher end southern cuisine in Chicago that was executed so well in a non-pretentious environment. Well done.

  Really enjoyed the experience -- food was plentiful, very good and nicely plated. All five of us had something different, and we enjoyed everything -- including each other's.
