  First we ordered the Grigliata Di Vegetali Fresh Grilled Vegetables. They were served ice cold and had no hint of any grilled or smokey flavor. Our main course was Orecchiette Braciole Rolled Beef Sirloin. The portion was tiny, the red sauce completely lacked flavor. Everything we ate was so bland. Lunch at a hospital would have had more spice. It needed salt, oregano, garlic. Anything to make this food somewhat interesting or even worth eating. Ok that was the positive part of the review. Next is the Pizza Margherita Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil. How the hell can you screw up a Pizza. It's an Italian restaurant. Same bland red sauce, cheese so thin you could see through it. No salt, no oregano, no garlic and NO BASIL.....GEEEEEESH...... Now the fun begins...desert...we ordered Cannoli Traditional Sicilian Cannoli Shells Stuffed With Home Made Ricotta Cheese, Served With Vanilla Gelato

  We had early Christmas dinner at Macello this year, and we had a great time. We chose a prix fixe meal through gDine and were very satisfied with the food choices, and the combinations of different foods. We've been here before pre-fire, and were so happy they've returned since there are few good Italian eateries near in the West Loop dining corridor.

  We once passed by this restaurant, looked in and decided not to go in. The entryway looks a bit like a deli and you cannot see back into the restaurant, which, on the Saturday evening we went, was quite lively. There were holiday parties and we sat at a table near the bar, however, the crowd was large and I felt crowded into them. Service was a little slow, but it was probably because of the large group parties. The amount of food that came with this deal was more than we would normally eat. We started with the sausage, which was good, but the 2nd course was the best. Mussels in a broth and a short pasta and beans. Delicious. 3rd course was an arugula, mozzarella and cherry tomato pizza, which was simple yet by that time I was quite full. Dessert was a flan, which was fantastic. I would come again, but not get this deal with is too much food.

  A bit hard to get to because of the current Lake Street construction but worth the detours. Great pizza.

  The atmosphere at Macello is great, I think anyone would like it. I would have preferred the t.v. off at night, but the room is wonderful. Our server, Safa, was extremely efficient while unobtrusive, as was the busman and I loved the sharing menu. Even though I am pretty calorie conscience, course one and two had healthier options (roasted veggies, baked chicken) that enabled me to enjoy course three and four (pizza, tiramisu) without guilt and the portions were just the right size for sharing. We both had plenty without feeling stuffed and still took some pizza home. I cannot wait to return with my girlfriends and the price was amazing for such a nice evening.

  Great ambiance, excellent food, awesome service. Great place for a date. Love the decor. Only downside is that the portions are huge. But can't complain too much about that, leftovers were delicious. Will go back again for sure.

  We went to Macello on Super Bowl Sunday evening, wanting a quiet dinner out. The restaurant was not busy but the food was really great. Favorites at our table were the stuffed artichoke apetizer, Cavatelli, Pizza, and Cannoli. Decent, inexpensive wine list too - loaded with wonderful and reasonably priced Puglian wines. We will definitely return.

  Very good food. Authentic Pugliese Italian food. (heel of the boot) Pizza is done well and I enjoyed the Braciole. Chicken with potatoes and asparugus is moist and you can taste the sage. Portion is half a chicken but it was probably a 5 lb chicken so it was very large. Pugliese salad with cucumbers was enjoyable as well. Dessert was cannoli and tiramisu both well done. There is a wine list for just Pugliese wines and then other Italian reds. The Pugliese primativos were very reasonable. Nice ambiance. Building was rehabbed high ceilings with a glass roof.
